Overcoming Health Scares: How to Persevere as a Powerful Woman
As a woman with a lot of medical scares, I can attest to just how daunting it can be to think about how to move forward in both business and everyday life. It’s taken years to learn how to not let the fear and uncertainty stop me from achieving my goals. Years of counseling and resetting my lifestyle balance to ensure that I am getting enough movement, meditation, water, and healthy foods during the work day are finally paying off. You want to know how I know? Because I am saying NO much more often and it feels so right!
With healthy boundaries, mindset, support, and tools, you too can turn your health crisis into an opportunity for growth, self-discovery, and personal empowerment. Through hard work and perseverance, you can come out of this experience stronger than ever before - if I can do it YOU can and will too.
The Impact of Health Issues on Professional Growth
As if we needed one more reason to doubt ourselves, sometimes our bodies seem to turn on us at the least opportune times. There’s a reason for this horrific timing and it usually has everything to do with stress. When we are stressed it can trigger flares and/or disease. Breaking the word down, disease comes because your body is quite literally at dis-ease. That’s why so many of us are talking at no end about the importance of self-care, meditation, physical activity, and diet - it seems like the world is over inundated with this messaging but it’s for a good reason… because so many of us did not heed to being proactive and are accumulating health issues one after another because of it.
Personally, I have racked up at least 4 diagnosed autoimmune diseases from not listening to what others were sharing and most importantly what my own body was quite loudly telling me.
Needless to say, the fear and uncertainty that accompany a health scare can make it difficult to stay focused on career goals and ambitions. However, it is important to remember that setbacks do not define us; it is how we respond to them that truly matters. (Boy oh boy did I have to learn and relearn this so many times - you are not your disease!) In fact, with a change of mindset we can use illness as a wake-up call to make much needed changes in our lifestyle AND motivation to take risks we may not have ever agreed to take before.
By staying true to ourselves and our aspirations, we can find the strength to push through adversity and pursue our goals with even more determination. It sounds a lot easier than it is to do - it takes pulling on the deepest chords within ourselves and asking if we have truly accomplished everything we were meant to in this lifetime? Sounds a bit dramatic but it’s true - our days are never a given so what would your daily routine look like if you lived like everyday was your last? I am damn sure you would be living your best life and making the biggest impacts you could on the lives of others! Consider what you want your legacy to look like?
Plan For It
In addition to resilience, planning is crucial when navigating the impact of health scares on professional growth. It may be necessary to reassess priorities and make adjustments to accommodate our health needs. For me personally, to better manage my health I started working for myself. Yup, my journey to entrepreneurship started because I was having a lot of health issues. Being able to set my own schedule and report to myself (which is a double edged sword as I, like most women, are my own biggest critic) was exactly what I needed to do. I needed more control over my time to ensure medications were being taken on time, I had access to foods I can still eat, and the freedom to structure my day (hell, my WEEK) around how I am feeling.
Working for yourself is not for everybody so for others this could involve seeking extra support from healthcare professionals, exploring flexible work options within your 9 to 5 (i.e. remote work or using stored vacation time), or temporarily scaling back certain commitments. By reframing our priorities and making room for our health, we can achieve balance without sacrifice. (Are you starting to connect the dots between Wellth’s mission and my own story?!)
Seeking coaching and finding support in a community or tribe of other women can be invaluable in overcoming the challenges brought on by a health scare. Working with professionals who understand your unique situation can provide guidance, motivation, and strategies to help you navigate through difficult times. And sometimes we need other women to just be there to listen and show us the empathy we may be lacking in some of our other relationships. If I hadn’t created my own team of counselors, coaches, friends, and confidants I would have never survived all the trips to the clinic, nor the fear of failing at my own life. Female energy is healing, helpful energy and something we all need from other women in our lives.
Reframing Priorities: Making Room for Health
Overcoming health obstacles requires us to take a step back and assess what truly matters to us. This may mean letting go of certain commitments or scaling back on our workload temporarily. It's essential to stay true to yourself during this process and not compromise your well-being for the sake of professional goals. And remember, by making this decision you are NOT failing, you are choosing to avoid short-sighted success and instead have signed up for long-term fulfillment and wellness.
Reframing priorities and making room for health is a crucial step in thriving as a powerful woman in your career. It shows resilience, self-awareness, and a commitment to personal growth. Embrace this opportunity for positive change and empower yourself to achieve both professional success and optimal well-being.
Overcoming Personal Challenges: Boosting Confidence and Self-Esteem
Being confident and having high self-esteem can be the game changers in your road to recovery and getting back in the professional game. When you are confident in who you truly are and learn to not only accept yourself and circumstances but love them, it shows. And when it shows, others believe it too. They see you as the energy source, savvy, intelligent, and powerful woman you are! One of the key aspects of boosting confidence and self-esteem is staying true to yourself - no matter what. This means honoring your values, beliefs, and passions, even in the midst of uncertainty.
Self-reflection and self-care play a crucial role in boosting confidence and self-esteem. Take time to assess your strengths and accomplishments, and celebrate yourself for the unique skills and qualities that make you a powerful woman. Embrace and OWN your successes, no matter how small, and acknowledge the progress you have made on your professional journey.
Another effective strategy for boosting confidence and self-esteem is surrounding yourself with a supportive community. Seek out mentors, colleagues, or friends who can uplift and encourage you during challenging times. Collaborating with others can provide fresh perspectives and insights, and can remind you that you are not alone in your journey. You know your tribe is waiting for you here at Wellth. I don’t know any of our providers to have been lucky enough to escape hardship of some kind - we have all experienced pain and trauma and are literally here to hold up other women that are currently going through “it”.
